Last Rites

We lay on the bed
Supinely naked
Staring hard at the dull white ceiling above us
As if reading some invisible verses
Of some ancient scripture of love
Hoping either of us would know
How to end this ostensive love-making
Cast the dead weight of desires away
And find solace in each other’s company

But it has been long now
We have delayed the funeral far too long
The dead between us is unbearably fattening
How long can we mummify it in silence?

The pyramid of our love is hollow inside
The magical ritual of our love-making
Isn’t enough to survive the inevitable decay

We owe each other a proper funeral
And an eulogy of the last kiss

  1. When words reach you and make you wonder of the magic in the way they were written... you know you're reading the work of somebody who has a passion of writing. Mashallah! :)
