Broken Shadows

I would have burnt the whole sky
Crushed every monument
Fought every tyrant
Brought empires down

I would have smuggled hope from heaven
Traded stars for your earrings

I would have painted the whole world red
Every flower with my blood

I would have stolen every ruby for your lips
Every sapphire for your eyes

I would have corrupted every poet’s tongue
Every painter’s brush

I would have carved your name
On every mountain top
On every flower petal

I would have ended violence
From the world forever
Spread love in every human heart

I would have traded my life willingly
For the smallest wish you made

I would have changed
The course of world history

If only
You loved me in time!
If only
You loved me in time!

Ode to Death

The biggest proof
Of death
Is the dead body

Death makes it quite obvious
Its work is definitive

Fashioning its own course
Drafting its own rules

Death writes so well
No poetry resists it
No poet resolves it

Death has no cannons to shoot
No farewell gift to life

It passes
Like a breeze through human heart
Takes away all its songs

Death leaves silence behind
As if deserting its own child

I am left with silence too
Has death touched me already?

And After That…

Life is a poem written in actions
Greatest poems are never written by poets
But by those who read them with passion

Most powerful poem
Is the description of a kiss
And after that…

Party

I knew
We were in the same room
Along with others
Pretending to be listening
To everyone around us

But our minds were on each other’s presence
Like the inevitable awareness of a distinct perfume

She nervously kept fidgeting with her scarf
I pretended I am engrossed in my phone

Each moment felt heavier
Our mutual presence was weighing us down

Finally
After exhausting all the options
Of avoiding each other
She walked up to her friend
Sitting beside me
And told her,

“I should be leaving now”

But why so early?
The party has just started!

“No dear!”
“I left a story someone sent me half finished”
“I want to see how it ends”

She left
Saying good bye to everyone
Except me
Leaving whiffs of her perfume in the room
And a smile on my face

Later
While leaving the party alone
I consoled myself saying
“At least she is in the middle of my story”

Hyper-real

It is hard to explain
But is actually true
The girl sitting opposite to me
In a metro
Isn’t as attractive
As the girl in the novel
I am reading…

Wish I could be a character too
Of a better novel!
