Just outside my house
A big brown lazy dog sits
leisurely
Like an old sage meditating on
life
Indifferent to passing cars or
familiar boots
He doesn’t talk much
Or wag his tail when he sees me
He doesn’t even respond to our old
neighbours
When they give him something to
eat
Every morning and evening, religiously
However if a stranger is lost
Or an unfamiliar car honks nearby
He makes it sure to let them know
That they are not welcome here
And probably they should find
other ways
To reach their desired destination
I often come out of my house
To watch him
Observe him
To read his mind
But he eludes me
And leaves me with an eerie
feeling
Something I often feel
After reading the newspaper
