She Is An Amazing Cook

I have bouts of loving you
And not loving you...
One comes with its own fever
Other with its own pangs

Heart behaves like a naive chef
Who at times serves its best dishes
And other times forgets the entire recipe

But you must know sweetheart
Love is not like a culinary art
They say
One who cooks well, loves well
But that isn’t true at all
Though there are similarities
Between cooking and loving...
Both involve
Choosing
Holding
Cutting
Slicing
Mashing
Marinating
Kneading
Heating
Tasting
And then finally
Eating...

But believe me when I say
Love is nothing like a culinary art
Because one can always master an art

Most Deadliest Weapon

Phone is the most deadliest weapon
In the hands of lovers
Who aren’t talking to each other...

P.S.: Waiting for your call, every night!!!

What To Do When I Miss You?

What is the right thing to do?

Should I read your letters over and over again?
Should I go to all the places we have been every day?
Should I mark those places as national treasure?
Should I become lifetime curator
Of everything that I have received from you?

What should I do?
What is the right thing to do?

Missing you has become terrible obsession
Horrifyingly lonely pursuit

And just so that you should know
I’m failing at it miserably

I’m not reading your letters over and over again
They frighten me
With their meticulously cruel references
Of your overwhelming absence
I haven’t been to those places again
I find myself awkwardly lonely there
I can’t treasure anything about us
Everything eludes me
Whatever I received from you
Is solemnly kept closed
Inside an unshapely box of memories

I don’t know how to be without you

What to do when I miss you?
What to do...?

What Caused This Spiralling?

What caused this spiralling?
This awakening of intense darkness within me
Like a dragon coming out of his sleep
What caused it?

The day started unusually normal
Uneventful bow tie was already
Tied around its huge neck in the morning

When I woke up
The night was still hanging
From the discoloured curtains over the window
Fighting the sunlight bravely
As if it had started liking me
Like my old cat
Who died long ago
Before I could know her

The day wasn’t sure of its commitments
So I decided to help it out
I made myself a nice cup of tea
Drank it leisurely over an hour
While reading
“How to be happy when you are happy?”

I reminded myself of the exact words
Of the promise that she asked of me

“Promise me, you’ll take care of yourself...”

What possible answer can there be
For such a promise?
Posed almost like a question
Or more like a doubt
By the person who like a caravan
Is about to leave soon...

I couldn’t think of any good answer
So after an annoyingly long pause
I replied

“I’ll take care of myself
What do you think I’m a child
Who needs...”

Before I could finish
I started crying like a baby...
Almost proving her doubt right away

But a promise given to the beloved
Is more than a promise
It gradually becomes the purpose of one’s life
Like an obnoxious habit impossible to break

So purposefully
Almost like a habit
I took care of myself
Throughout the day
But no one warned me
Against the cruelties of insufferable evening

Everything around me...
Every molecule in my body...
Every atom of my consciousness...
Which was at its right place till then
Suddenly with the coming of the evening
Fell apart like a false story
Like an illusion

I broke into million pieces
Each part feeling the pain
Of your separation million times

This is not even midnight yet
Your absence has already turned itself
Into million tiny needles
Stitching me like an old stubborn tailor
Who is half-blind but can’t stop working

I feel your absence more like a presence now
I fear I might turn it into a real person
As monstrous as an abandoned childhood
Unless you come back and save us both...

I Miss You In Everything...

You know what I miss about you

Those mysterious smiles
You and I exchange
When we sit face to face
On a boring metro ride

That extra seasoning
You sprinkle on your pizza
And then crying with teary eyes
“This is sooo spicy...
Please do something fast...”

That anxious eating of your lipskin
When you are lost in your thoughts
And then frantically searching
For a lip cream in your bottomless bag

Those babylike moans you make
When I sit on my study chair
And not on the sofa with you
To watch some ridiculously obnoxious
Romantic movie

That unstoppable giggle you break into
At the mere mention
Of ‘but’ in any conversation
And then turning red in shame

That repeatedly frightful shouting
Of my name
When a cockroach walks by in the kitchen
And you saying in panic
“Save me from him or I’ll die...”

I miss you in everything...
In the tilt of our picture on the wall
In the softness of our pillow
In the colours of my clothes
In the faces of all the people I meet...

Onion Rings

She placed the onion rings
On my tongue
With such love and passion
As if she was placing rings
On my fingers

By the time
We finished dinner
I remember
We were engaged
More than once...
